About Us

At Greenland, our roots are strong. In 1960, John Chichak started the company, specializing in lawn maintenance with a small garden centre in north Edmonton. In 1981, John's children - Deborah, Tim, Wayne, and son-in-law Rod, decided to build a garden centre that was to be a year round destination for gardening, home décor and so much more. On April 23, 1991, the new Greenland celebrated it's grand opening.

It's been over five decades since Greenland was first established. We continue to be a family business that serves families. Our staff are consistently commended by customers for their helpful & friendly service. The Greenland family is proud to offer excellence in quality, selection & service all year round.

Community Events  

Since moving to our new location in 1991, Greenland has grown to be one of the largest garden centers in Alberta. We have received several business awards, the most prestigious being 'Canadian Retailer of the Year'. This award was based on outstanding customer service, unique & innovative product lines, and excellence in quality and displays. Involvement in the community was also an integral part of the award.

Greenland hosts several fundraisers every year for charities such as 'Safe Place' Women's Shelter, Alberta Cross Cancer Institute & the Strathcona Christmas Bureau. In late October our greenhouse transforms into a wintry wonderland filled with Western Canada's largest selection of Christmas decor and collectibles. Inspiring Display Gardens

Our outdoor display gardens feature thousands of hardy perennials, shrubs, trees and evergreens, and provide you with inspiring combinations for your own landscape.  Our full-time gardeners work tirelessly to create a soothing space outdoors for you to wander; grab a warm beverage or refreshing drink from our Cappuccino bar and stroll throughout the paths in our large pond garden, or in and around the various display beds in our Roses, Perennials and Watergardening departments. 

We hope our displays provide you with practical yet beautiful ideas for both indoors and out.  Every January, Greenland creates an indoor garden to help you escape winter.  The garden provides visitors with the sights and sounds of spring in the middle of winter, and is open for all to view up to and including Easter weekend every year.

 

  
   
 

 
 

 

Informative Classes

Our classes offer a wealth of information on gardening and home decorating.  Our Winter and Spring courses run from April until June and include topics such as seeding indoors, pruning and landscaping, while our Fall and Winter classes run from September until December and include topics on everything from preparing your yard for winter to enhancing your entrance for Christmas.  Our class leaflets are mailed directly to current Greenland Club Members; additional leaflets can be picked up in-store.
