Easy Growing Houseplants

One of the best ways to curb the winter blues is to introduce a new plant to the home or work space. We provide a number of attractive options that are also very easy to care for.


Epipremnum aureum

  • One of the classic houseplants
  • A vine which can be grown in a hanging basket or tied to a stake or pole in an upright position
  • A number of cultivars are available with different color patterns on the foliage
  • Common color patterns are green with creamy-yellow variegation; solid neon-yellow; and green with silver variegation
  • Prefers moderate moisture conditions, with less water in winter
  • Prefers bright indirect light; tolerant of low light
  • Fertilize once per month with 20-20-20 March to October


Snake PlantSnake Plant

Sansevieria spp.

  • Succulent leaves form a rosette and are typically long and narrow, but very upright
  • The leaves are variegated in a wide range of color patterns
  • ‘Bantel’s Sensation’ has narrower, deep green leaves with crisp white variegation
  • ‘Moonshine’ has broader leaves which have a silver base color, marbled and edged with dark green
  • ‘Black Gold’ has deep green leaves with yellow striping
  • ‘Black Star’ is a unique variety which is much shorter and not as upright, with deep blue-green leaves edged in creamy yellow
  • S. cylindrica has rope-like leaves that can be braided
  • All are extremely easy to grow
  • Water about once or twice per month, depending on weather conditions
  • Prefers bright, indirect light; tolerant of low light levels
  • 20-20-20 fertilizer can be applied once per month March to October


ZZ PlantZZ Plant

Zamioculcas zamiifolia

  • From the Arum Family, this plant is related to peace lily and calla lily
  • Long, slightly arching leaves grow from tubers and are composed of many pairs of dark green, glossy leaflets
  • Quite an attractive foliage plant, with inconspicuous flowers
  • Prefers bright, indirect light; tolerant of low light levels
  • Grow on the dry side as it is prone to rot from overwatering


Chinese EvergreenChinese Evergreen

Aglaonema spp.

  • Beautiful foliage plant from the Arum Family
  • Broad and thick-textured leaves come in a wide variety of color patterns, with white, red, and silver variegation depending on variety
  • Will grow in any lighting situation as long as there is no direct sun; tolerant of low light
  • Allow the soil to almost completely dry out between watering
  • Fertilize once per month with 20-20-20 March to October

Chlorophytum ‘Orange Flash’

  • A unique variety of the ever-popular houseplant
  • Unlike other spider plants, this has broad leaves that are semi-upright, forming a rosette
  • The foliage has a blue-green base color with a prominent bright orange central vein
  • Allow the soil to partially dry between watering
  • Prefers bright, indirect light; tolerant of low light
