On July 18 and 19, the Edmonton Horticultural Society will present Garden Tour 2015.
The annual tour is an Edmonton tradition and the most popular event of our gardening season. It offers an opportunity for garden enthusiasts to access some of the area's best private gardens, chat with great gardeners, learn what can be grown here, get design and planting ideas, and be inspired. For many it is simply a chance to enjoy the beauty of great gardens and delight the senses. For others it might be the inspiration for beginning a garden of their own.
This year’s tour includes 11 diverse gardens. Some are award winners from the EHS Garden Competition and from Front Yards in Bloom.
Gardens will show how to integrate a lifestyle, whether it is entertaining, visiting or family activities. Some gardens offer spectacular plantings, dry creek beds and waterscapes, garden sculptures, and interesting hardscapes. One garden has a giant vine-covered 'birdcage' for the perfect tête-de-tête. One garden has a grand-scale rock garden that is awe inspiring. This year two gardens have French inspired gardening elements, one being formal and the other informal.
We expect over 850 ticket holders to view the gardens during the two days. Although most of the gardens are in Edmonton, we have three gardens in Sherwood Park. The tour is self-guided. The ticket includes the addresses, driving directions, a map, and a brief description of what makes each garden special. Ticket holders can choose to do the tour in one day or enjoy a more leisurely two-day tour between 10am and 4pm.
Tickets are $18 per person (children 12 and under are free). Tickets are available at Greenland Garden Centre, or online at edmontonhort.com/store.
