Spring bulbs have arrived! And though most of these don’t need planting until about mid-April, selection is at its peak at local garden centres right now. Here are some great varieties that make the trip to the local greenhouse worthwhile:
A beautiful apricot-beige coloured begonia with huge double blossoms. Perfect in a container or hanging basket, allowing the blooms to cascade over the edge.
Montego Bay Lily
This oriental/trumpet lily mix boasts huge, waxy blooms in a sunset blend of raspberry, orange and yellow. Summer blooms have a fruity fragrance. This hardy perennials grows 4-6’ tall.
Pink Sapphire Tuberose
Tall stems of fragrant double pink blooms stand out in the garden and make an exceptionally long lived cutflower. A great choice for the center of containers, grows to 3-4’ tall.
Canadian Celebration Dahlia
Celebrate Canada’s 150th Birthday this summer by growing an incredible Dahlia. Florissa’s Canadian Celebration (Fire and Ice) Dahlia promises continuous flowers July through October. It’s a vibrant semi-double dahlia with true red and white petals surrounding a striking golden yellow centre. Grows to 16” tall.
