Great Shrubs for Hedging

Traditionally in our area Cotoneaster are the most popular shrub for hedging, however there are several shrubs that are great choices for low maintenance hedges that will add colour and texture to any landscape. Here are some of our favourites:

Purple Ninebark

Lilac

If you’re seeking a low growing hedge that will be filled with colour in spring, there are several low growing lilacs to choose from. Each variety has a pic:

Dwarf Korean
This low growing shrub measures about 3’ x 3’ and produces pink/purple coloured blossoms that are smaller than traditional lilacs, but smother the entire shrub.

Tinkerbelle
Similar to Dwarf Korean in habit but with bright pink blossoms

Bloomerang
A new selection of the Dwarf Korean lilac that produces lilac coloured blooms in spring, then a second set of blossoms later in summer.

Prairie Petite
Unlike the other lilacs above, this variety has the wide leaf of the traditional hardy lilac, but with a compact height to suit any yard.
